Tove, Krester, Ada, Iben & Anker (The Danish Family) Backstory: 1899 has finally arrived on Netflix and it has been making the fans all over in one word, going BONKERS! With the show not only giving us a complex storyline but also a high-tech take on reality itself, we’re in for a crazy ride.

The creators of the show have hinted numerous times that “We’re not asking the right questions”. So, in lieu of that, we thought it’s good to know the backstories of the characters so we’d be able to make sense of 1899 a bit more since there might be some reality to their backstories and not everything that we were shown is supposedly fiction.

Here’s the backstory of the Danish Family consisting of Tove, Krester, Ada, Iben & Anker

Anker is the husband to Iben and father to Tove, Krester & Ada who is also a farmer, following their tradition of being a farmer from earlier generations they had been farming on someone else’s farm and their landlord is a cruel person.

Anker is also a priest who tries to lead god’s way but Iben, his wife is mentally sick she hears voices inside her head and she says that she hears the voice of God. Iben and his family are on their way to America on Kerberos after an unfortunate incident involving Krester and Tove.

Krester who is a Homo-sexual was involved in an act with the landlord’s son and after the landlord finds that out, he points the gun at Krester in an attempt to shoot him but is stopped by Tove and the shot touches his face and gives him a mark.

After that, Krester’s parents arrive and the landlord tells him that he’s going to take revenge in exchange for Krester taking his son’s innocence away and then he knocks Tove away and when she wakes up, he finds the landlord raping him, and then in a fit of rage, she kills the landlord by bashing his face with a rock but then we see her pregnant in the Kerberos which means that the kid inside Tove is actually of that landlord.

Ada, on the other hand, is the youngest of the siblings and the smartest one as well. We see her conversing with Maura after she helps Tove with the pain by turning her baby in the womb and Ada tells her that she wants to be a doctor when she grows up.

She also discusses her dream of studying when they get to America to which Krester ridicules her and tells her to play with her dolls. After that, Ada dies at the hands of Daniel.

"I'm just a humble cinephile with a knack for stringing words together. My reviews may not be as fancy as "The Grand Budapest Hotel" but they'll give you a good idea of whether a movie is worth the ticket price. I may not be a "Casablanca" of criticism, but I'll always give you my honest opinion. So join me on this journey of cinematic discovery, it's sure to be "One for the Ages."
