Queen of Tears Episode 1 Recap and Explained: Netflix presents a sixteen-episodic romantic Korean drama with more than 1 hour of runtime for each episode. The story is about Hong Hae-In who is from a very rich family and Baek Hyun-Woo who is from a middle-class family in a village, these two fall in love and marry.
They used to love each other before the marriage, but as time passed they started getting separated from each other in emotion and love. How this relationship as husband and wife continues in future is the story of the drama.
The episode opens with an interview with Hong Hae-In and Baek Hyun-Woo by the media. Media persons were asking about how Hong Hae-In and Baek Hyun-Woo met and how they fell in love. Baek Hyun-Woo tells them that when Baek Hyun-Woo was working in the law department at the company Hong Hae-In joined as a newbie. Hong Hae-In hid her identity at the company.
Whenever Baek Hyun-Woo sees Hong Hae-In she will be in trouble at work. Baek Hyun-Woo helps her with many work-related things without knowing Hong Hae-In is an heir to the company. After some time Baek Hyun-Woo fell in love with her. One day Baek Hyun-Woo proposes to Hong Hae-In and tells her that he has a farm in his village, and he can look after her with his earnings so that she doesn’t have to work like this and get in trouble. Hong Hae-In liked his approach and she liked him for some time too.

Baek Hyun-Woo and Hong Hae-In marry each other by revealing their real identity. Cut to the interview, Baek Hyun-Woo is faking his words about their current relationship status to the media that they are very happy now. The reality is they are not in a good relationship now. All these interviews are to keep up the good image among the public that they are living very happily and lovely. After the marriage, Baek Hyun-Woo became the Director of Queens Company.
The public thought Baek Hyun-Woo married Hong Hae-In by seeing her wealth and background but it was not true, Baek Hyun-Woo loved Hong Hae-In without knowing her background. Even if Hong Hae-In was poor Baek Hyun-Woo would have married her. Baek Hyun-Woo’s family was very happy about the marriage.
Baek Hyun-Woo lives in Hong Hae-In’s house. His whole life is controlled by Hong Hae-In’s family now. Baek Hyun-Woo and Hong Hae-In don’t talk to each other now. Hong Hae-In’s family gives him orders like he is their servant. Baek Hyun-Woo wanted freedom in his life but he didn’t get any freedom. That’s why Baek Hyun-Woo wanted a divorce now.

He even prepared divorce documents but he is unable to tell Hong Hae-In about it. Hong Hae-In’s family calls for family meetings and forces unwanted matters to be done by Baek Hyun-Woo. Baek Hyun-Woo also goes to a therapist to stabilize his mental health. Even if Hong Hae-In doesn’t talk to Baek Hyun-Woo she maintains her respect on him. When Hong Hae-In’s brother disrespected her husband in front of everyone, Hong Hae-In scolded her brother and warned him not to ever in future.
At the company meeting when Hong Hae-In ordered the staff to remove shops that are not maintaining the sales at their mall, the staff told her that Baek Hyun-Woo opposed it. Hong Hae-In called Baek Hyun-Woo to come to the meeting even though he was in another meeting she used her position to order him. She ordered him to remove the shops that were not doing well.
It was an insult to Baek Hyun-Woo. Later Hong Hae-In tells Baek Hyun-Woo to come with her to see a doctor but Baek Hyun-Woo says he won’t come. Baek Hyun-Woo go to his village to see his parents. His father and mother were doing farming work at that time. Baek Hyun-Woo’s mother prepares food for him. Baek Hyun-Woo’s sister scolds him for not coming to his father’s birthday.
While eating with Baek Hyun-Woo’s family, he tells them that he is going to divorce Hong Hae-In as he is not happy with the current relationship. Baek Hyun-Woo’s sisters try many ways to change his decision to divorce Hong Hae-In. But Baek Hyun-Woo is fixed on his decision. Baek Hyun-Woo’s sister says she dropped her education for Baek Hyun-Woo’s future. At the end of the episode, Baek Hyun-Woo prints the divorce paper and goes to Hong Hae-In’s room to get her sign.
Hong Hae-In says that she also has something to say to him. She says that she met the doctor and the doctor said she only lived for three months and that she had a terminal illness. Baek Hyun-Woo was shocked by the news and guilty. Baek Hyun-Woo says sorry to her and avoids talking about the divorce. Baek Hyun-Woo told her that he loves her very much and he will look after her no matter what happens.
