Abhimanyu Dasani & Gulshan Devaiah: “Monica O My Darling” has been released on the streaming giant Netflix and well, let’s just say that the film is astonishingly funny and gets a lot of moments right, given it adapted from the Japanese Novel titled “Brutus’s Heart”.

Given the comedy that happens in the wake of murders that keep happening to a Robotics Company called Unicorn, the writer, and director Vasan Bala has done a tremendous job in giving us enjoyable and witty content, as he’s always done.

If you’re not aware of Vasan’s previous work, he’s done a couple of short films but his major break was the 2018 film “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota” and if you’re a fan of Vasan and have watched the aforementioned movie, you might be aware of the cameos that happen in the film. Here’s the list of cameos, for your information.

Abhimanyu Dasani

Vasan Bala has taken his two lead characters i.e., Abhimanyu Dasani & Radhika Madan, and put them in the film for a short duration,  Abhimanyu, who played the role of Surya in “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota” did a cameo where he’s crying seeing the death news of Monica on the TV gulping down water whereas Radhika who played Supri in “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota” played a girl called Supri who has come to Khandala’s forest to spot Leopards and instead finds the body of Nishikant played by Sikandar Kher.

Gulshan Devaiah

Other than these two, there’s a notable cameo of Gulshan Devaiah as well but surprisingly, he’s not in the movie but comes first in the special thanks section when the credits start to roll. Interestingly, Gulshan Devaiah, in a press event also told that he’s mentioned in the special thanks section but he isn’t part of the movie and says that maybe Vasan Bala, the director thinks Gulshan is too special and included him in the movie or maybe it’s some kind of inside joke and we all know how witty Vasan Bala can be, by looking at his movies.

Now that we’ve come across the humorous side of the Vasan Bala, there are some other cameos or references that were gone in a split second but we were able to capture that. When Jayant towards the end of the film is penitent and is drafting an email to his wife Nikki and father-in-law about his deeds, he gets a call from Shalu who is roaming in front of her house and there’s a bulletin or a tenants list titled “B.D Inamdar Staff Quarters” which says “Thank you for pausing to read the names” and the names will get you pumped because these are not ordinary names in the history of Indian cinema.

"I'm just a humble cinephile with a knack for stringing words together. My reviews may not be as fancy as "The Grand Budapest Hotel" but they'll give you a good idea of whether a movie is worth the ticket price. I may not be a "Casablanca" of criticism, but I'll always give you my honest opinion. So join me on this journey of cinematic discovery, it's sure to be "One for the Ages."

  1. There were many pop culture references in the movie like, ‘aap ki paar ki nazar’ dialogue, my cousin vinny reference at the end of the movie, najane kahan se aayi hai ..kahan ko jayegi in the first song, jhonny gaddar -where all the leads die at the end

  2. Also in the theme of pop culture Gaurav More also said ‘Tu chronology samaj’ which i find funny cause its a satire on Indian politics and politics in the movie as Gaurav explains how he was being manipulated by bosses son and intern how boss and his son both were manipulated by Monica.
