The Politician Season 2 Plot
Season 2 started with Payton coming to run for New York Senator against the current post holder Dede. We see a faceoff and battle of wits between the two throughout the season. While Payton is all about welfare and is pointing out several concerns that require attention, Dede isn’t bothered and is going by the previous results of the election which shows her dominance.
In the public and the outer world, the two candidates are having great conversations and debates but slowly there are some inner politics that make their way into this rivalry. We see that Dede’s personal life has been made public by one of Payton’s assistant. And Payton himself gets into trouble while being dressed as Geronimo which was meant to be for cultural appropriation. Payton thinks and firmly believes that instead of doing dirty politics and degrading the opponent, he should stick to his plus points and do a fair electoral campaign. This makes Dede respect Payton. After all the hard work, the contest between them ends in a tie, to which they decide to choose the winner by Rock, Paper, and scissors. Dede backs out and gives the win to Payton who records the biggest victory in his life.
Why did they do Rock Paper and scissors?
Well in some states of the US if the election gets tied then the candidates can decide a winner through methods like a coin toss, picking straws, etc or they can choose for reelection. In the show, they decide to go with Rock paper and scissors because they want to try their own luck and Coin toss is… Well less human? So they decided to go with it. To be noted that of course ties don’t generally happen in US elections but this is the case of ifs
The Politician Season 2 Ending
The season gears it ends after and when the results of the election will be announced by the game. Well, no game happened because Dede steps down as a candidate which gives Payton full majority and thus making him the winner. Payton delivers a beautiful speech to the people and his team and tells them that there work is to and for the benefit of the people. We also see that Payton’s biggest achievement is becoming a father.
Always chasing the dream and looking for the next big thing attitude frightened even Payton’s mother, but now it has become his reality and realizing that he is a father now, Payton thinks of stopping there and not looking for the next big thing but things are certainly planned for him by his destiny.
Dede meets up with Payton during his jogging and offers her a post. What happened is that earlier Dede ran for the VP post of Payton’s mother who actually is on the verge of winning the presidential election. Although she explains to Dede that she only wants to work for 1 term and do everything to help and for the welfare of the people and to make changes and after that Dede can take her place. After seeing Payton’s ideologies Dede offers him to be her Vice President Candidate. Hence, in the end, Payton is met with the dream he has been working so hard on, he is going to be there in Washington DC, how well does he hold himself? We’ll see.
Final words
Well after this season, which has completely been about Payton’s self-discovery, we can say that the Payton who will be contesting in DC will be different and changed person. He has learned so much. Payton also has promised Alice that he is ready to hold on his dreams for hers but will be able to do it actually? We’ll see that too. One thing is for sure that season 3 will be so much fun!
