In this show, Kwon Jun-taek is a rich bar owner and also a good friend with Jang Tae-sang but he is unaware of his son’s involvement in the rebel group which is called Joseon Patriotic Society, and he aims to free Joseon from Japanese rule, despite his father’s connections to the director of Ongseong Hospital named Ichiro.

Where we see that he is ashamed of his father’s betrayal of his country as his father’s firm trades with the Japanese where he joins the Joseon Patriotic Society to fight for his country’s freedom and gathers intelligence for the organization.
Later, we see that Jun-taek knows the plans of Tae-sang is planning to rescue Myeong-ja and he wants to join him whereas Tae-sang’s group is caught by a Japanese soldier and then, Jun-taek abandons the group and searches for Lee alone.
