Richard Joseph McGuire, popularly known as Dick McGuire on the field, is a professional basketball player who played almost 11 seasons in the NBA, including eight seasons with the New York Knicks and the remaining three with the Detroit Pistons. His legendary number 15 jersey was retired by the Knicks in 1992.

He was an NBA All-Star seven times, and in his very early season, he made a record of 386 assists in a season. In 1959, he came to the Detroit Pistons as their coach and worked there until 1963. He was working as a senior consultant for his very early team Knicks when he died in the year 2010. He was 84 years old.

In 1993, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and his jersey was retired in 1992 by the Knicks. His brother, Alfred James McGuire, is also related to basketball, and he coached Marquette University.

They are the only brother duo to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. His nephew, Alfred C. “Allie” McGuire, also carried his legacy and played in the NBA.
