Chupa Movie Review: The latest adventure drama is now streaming on Netflix in the English language with English subtitles, directed by Jonás Cuarón. The cast includes Christian Slater, Evan Whitten, Ashley Ciarra, and other stars. The runtime of the movie is approximately 1.3 hours, written by Sean Kennedy Moore, and the movie is rated PG. Here is the review of the film.

The movie tells the story of a boy named Alex who goes to his grandfather’s house in Mexico and finds a strange creature named Chupa there. Chupa looks like a small puppy but has sharp teeth, claws, and wings, and can fly. However, an evil scientist, Quinn, is after them and wants to capture the creature. Will he be able to do so, or will Alex save him? To find out, you have to watch the movie streaming now on Netflix.

The movie fails to match the levels of the animal buddy adventure movies like Lassie Come Home (1943) and other movies built around this theme. The audience feels little disconnected with Chupa, and it is unclear how they became friends or what the bond is between them. However, there is a scene where Chupa helps Alex to fight some bad guys, but the movie fails to build that emotional bond.

The performance by the lead child artist is good, and the makeup team has done a great job in showing Chupa as a real creature. However, the movie is predictable, and the action sequences are not so strong. The camera work is also not good; it feels a little off, and the music is also average. The only good thing in the movie is the performance by the actor playing the role of Alex. You will feel connected with him but not with the other supporting stars.

Overall, the movie is a one-time watch, and if you want to see some quality content, you can skip it. However, if you are looking for something to watch with your children, you can consider this movie as it is perfect for a feel-good, family drama but does not require much brainpower.

MY RATING: 2.5/5
