Alice In The Borderland 2 Explained: Alice In Borderland Season 2 has been officially released on Netflix after it’s a year-long wait. Season 1 was very successful among the fans who got to see a unique plot and an engaging storyline which has continued in Season 2 as well.
There are a lot of questions lingering in the mind of the audience right from Season 1 and one of them must be about the game country where Alice along with others gets sent and is forced to compete in games that can cost them their lives.
So, what exactly is Borderland in the title, let’s take a look at that and more.
What Is Borderland? What Does It Stand For?
“Borderland” stands for a vague intermediate state or region as per Merriam-Webster. However, it all starts on that day when Alice Karube and Chota are hiding from the police in a restroom and get transported to another world i.e., “The Game Country”. Before they were sent, they saw Fireworks in the sky which turn out to be meteorites that hit Shibuya.
In this big explosion, Alice’s heart stops and he goes into cardiac arrest for over a minute while the medics are trying to resuscitate him back to life, it is that time that he’s in the “Borderland” and that Borderland is a vague line between reality and imagination which the Game Country where he’s playing for his life.
After Alice and the other players have defeated all the games, they were presented with a choice to either accept permanent residency inside the game or decline it. Alice along with other players declines the offer and gets sent back to the real world where he’s being resuscitated back to life by medics.

So, that time of over a minute when Alice’s heart stopped, he was in the game country for months until he was back. This makes the title of the show very meaningful because it tells us about Alice, the protagonist of the show inside a place where reality and imagination meet and it confuses him further about its authenticity.
Have The Games Ended For Real?
The Ending of Season 2 is cryptic where we’re witnessed by wholesome ending for Alice, Usagi, and Kuina where Alice and Usagi meet each other and despite no prior memories of their time together in the game world, they get along and we see them going out for a walk.
However, in the park outside we see a finished game of cards on the table and due to the winds all cards get swept away but only one remains and that is “JOKER”. This makes sense because we saw all the cards in the game world, along with numbers and the face cards but the JOKER card, we did not.

So, this means that one card still remains and he might be the trickiest and the most deceiving of all whatever we’re seeing for the players who declined the offer to stay in the game as a permanent resident is just another illusion and the players are still inside the game.
However, we’ll be able to see that in Season 3 of the series which will be sometime after.
