The Diplomat Episode 5: An unexpected death of an Iranian Ambassador has left everyone speechless, and the series is now getting more interesting. As we cover the episode-wise recap of the show, here’s the Episode 5 Recap and Ending Explanation. You can also check the Episode 1, Episode 3, and Episode 4 Recap of the show.
This episode starts with a discussion between Stuart and Park, where Park informs that the President wants to go to Chevening. They assume that the Iranian Ambassador was poisoned by the Russians. On the other side, Kate thinks Hal is hiding something.
Kate and Stuart go to the country bunker of the Foreign Secretary, and British Secretary Austin wants to meet with the United Secretary of State Banon at their country bunker, Chevening House. Eidra and the UK police talk to Kate because she was present when Iranian Ambassador Hajjar died.
Austin says if Russia’s aim was to ensnare America in a War in the Gulf, then anything other than an acquittal would be a gift to the Kremlin, but they must prove that Iran is not the culprit. To prove Russia is the culprit, they do not have enough proof.
Suddenly, the Prime Minister is coming to Chevening to meet them. According to Prime Minister Trowbridge, he wants to accuse Russia of attacking a British warship. But Kate reminds Austin they lack proof.
Trowbridge asks Hal what he should do about Russia, and Hal replies that he must talk with the Ambassador. Meanwhile, while Kate is busy gathering enough material to accuse Russia but deal with them without risking war, Hal spends quality time with Cecilia, who is Austin’s sister. They go for a picnic, hang out, and also swim. Hal became close to Cecilia when he was swimming with her, so he cheated on Kate’s back.
But Kate is still focused on her work. She finds out that Trowbridge wants to reenact the Siege of Leningrad. And surprisingly, when everyone thinks that the Iranian Ambassador was killed by the Russians, Park informs them that he actually died of a heart attack.
On the other side, Kate asks the Department of Defense to make a list of targets to bomb in Russia. Kate surprisingly gives that list to Trowbridge and asks him to choose any target. Kate’s last move is very surprising, but it’s still unclear what she is actually planning. Let’s find out in the next episode.
