Celebrity Series Review: Celebrity is a 12-episode thriller that explores the dark side of social media fame. The story follows Seo A-ri, a former cosmetic salesperson who becomes an overnight social media sensation. As her fame grows, she finds herself entangled in a web of secrets, lies, and murder.

The show reflects the growing obsession with social media in our own world and does a good job of exploring the dark side of fame, and the ways in which social media can be used to manipulate and exploit people.

The series starts very nicely introducing us to the main characters and the world they live in. It makes us very curious about their life and every episode ends with a cliffhanger which makes us curious to keep watching. But the running time is just too long to not feel bored. That’s not the only negative aspect of this series tho, the romance between the two leads feels a big letdown as I couldn’t connect with them.

The story was suspenseful and kept me guessing until the end. Some of the plot twists were a bit predictable but it mostly suffers from a bad screenplay and long running time. The series also did a good job of exploring the dark side of social media fame and exploring the themes of guilt, lust, and addiction.

As for the performances they were quite convincing and everything they show on screen feels authentic and you would immediately feel a connection towards them. Park Gyu-young is particularly good as A-ri, giving a nuanced performance that captures the character’s ambition, vulnerability, and desperation. Kang Min-hyuk as Han Jun-Kyung does a fine job but her chemistry with Park Gyu-young feels off.

The rest of the cast did a fine job too especially Jun Hyo-Seong as Oh Min-Hye makes you really hate her and punch her in the face. Lee Dong-gun as Jin Tae-Jeon really put forward a menacing performance as a negative character in the series.

Overall, I enjoyed Celebrity and would recommend it to fans of thrillers and Korean dramas. It is a well-made and thought-provoking series that offers a glimpse into the dark side of social media fame and the class barrier between the rich and poor although it’s not perfect I would still rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
