Shiv Shastri Balboa Review: Age is just a number, that’s an old saying which is ironic on its own as it clashes with the same thing which it wants to eradicate. However, the new Anupam Kher starrer “Shiv Shastri Balboa” is yet another addition but it stands out quite a lot in many ways, the list starting from the name itself which is an homage to the Oscar Winning Film “Rocky” (like it needs some introduction).
It tells us the story of Shiv Shastri who is a retired Bank Officer and moves to the US to be with his son. Being a die-hard fan of Rocky Films, he’s incorporated the teachings of Rocky into his life and how his philosophy helps him in his time in the US. Here’s the official review of the film.
The premise of the film, not defining you with your age but your experiences and doing something for yourself, sounds fresh and wholesome at the same time, It promises a lot too, with an added reference to one of the most inspiring movies of all time, ROCKY which adds quite a lot of weight. It delivers more than it says it will in many ways. The story is brilliantly written and the supporting characters make it worthwhile.
With not too long of a runtime of just a little over 120 minutes, the film moves at a moderate pace. Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta are a treat to watch on the screen and their chemistry works a lot. All the other actors have done their roles nicely but you get stuck on these two main characters.
Review: Vash Gujarati Movie Review
The screenplay doesn’t feel stretched and what you’re left with is a great camaraderie between such amazing actors with a wholesome script that takes you through all the emotions.
It is indeed a coming-of-age story, of finding oneself again and it is such a beautiful surprise.
Final Verdict: 4/5
“It lures you with an awesome name and lets you out with a smile on your face and a lot of positivity and a heartwarming experience.”
