Dead For A Dollar Review: Walter Hill’s “Dead For A Dollar” has released recently with a stellar cast of Christoph Waltz, Willem Defoe, and Rachel Brosnahan telling the story of an army deserter who has taken hostage the wife of a rich man starting his political career and a bounty hunter in pursuit of the deserter and what happens when they cross over to Mexico into unchartered territory into the land of a ruthless gangster is what makes the crux of the story.

Walter Hill is famous for his revival of the Westerns and this is no different but the film is average at best, at moments it feels quite rushed, and sometimes it feels like there’s something missing in between. The film definitely has some beautiful shots in it but the plot isn’t that interesting for us to pull in super hard. Here are the weak and strong points of the film

Strong Points
Cinematography

Shot in the Western Sides of the country, the film is a great candidate for a good western in terms of the camera shots and how everything has been shot and that’s all there is to it.

Music

Every western has a piece of music that has a certain swag to it whenever either the protagonist or the antagonist arrives on the battlefield, let it be a duel or a fight but Music matters in a western and this one has got it.

Weak Points
Loose Story

The major parts of the story are clear and okay but the film lacks in getting us connected to each of the characters and at times it feels inauthentic and you get lost as to what’s happening in the film.

Screenplay

The film at times feels fragmented and pieced together but it’s not too hard to understand what’s going on it could have been way better than what we have been shown.

Final Verdict: 2/5

If you’re an avid fan of Westerns, you might want to skip this but being a Walter Hill fan, this one is still below decent with a lousy script. It’s better that you skip it.”

"I'm just a humble cinephile with a knack for stringing words together. My reviews may not be as fancy as "The Grand Budapest Hotel" but they'll give you a good idea of whether a movie is worth the ticket price. I may not be a "Casablanca" of criticism, but I'll always give you my honest opinion. So join me on this journey of cinematic discovery, it's sure to be "One for the Ages."
