Movies are an image of society and whatever prejudices you might encounter, let it be bad practices, bad habits, or even addictions, movies have it all. On this day, 26th June 2022 also known as “World Anti-Drug Day”, we put some movies in front of you that shows the true side of a drug addict’s struggle and how they deal with their lives.
Trainspotting
Trainspotting particularly is a dark comedy but it simply tells you a story about a recovering drug addict who gets pulled into that very world from which he’s trying to escape. Beautifully written and executed, this duology has won a lot of hearts with amazing performances from the cast, especially Ewan McGregor, famous for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Franchise.
The first Trainspotting film was released in 1996 and the second came in 2017. Based on the novel of the same name, it is still loved by people all around the world and is one of the must-watches.
A Star Is Born
A Star is Born has done what so few movies accomplish. It was originally made in 1937 with the same title and was remade 4 times, and also gave rise to remakes in other languages. A Star Is Born is a story about a musician who is battling alcoholism and also falls in love with a struggling artist and what follows is a journey worth remembering. A heartbreaking film, indeed, and the latest remake had Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in it. The film did beautifully at the box office, and among critics too.
Smashed
Led by amazing casting, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul, Smashed works differently than you might think, and it’s really good in a lot of ways. It tells you a story about a couple who met each other via alcohol, you could say that their relationship started on the foundation of alcohol, and both deal with alcoholism in their own way.
Now, one of them decides to stop that and change for the better. Now, is there a relationship that started on the basis of alcohol can sustain? The film is shot beautifully and gives off that indie vibe. It’s a must-watch.
Ben Is Back
Peter Hedges directorial, this film is backed by amazing writing and a great cast that tells a story about a Ben who is a recovering drug addict who comes back to his home for Christmas and that creates a chain of reactions. The film stars Julia Roberts who needs no introduction and Lucas Hedges, famous for his role in Oscar-Winning Film “Manchester By The Sea”. It packs some real raw drama and is a must-watch.
