Black Cake Episode 5: The episode starts with Eleanor recounting the day when she tried to take her own life in the tide. She wanted to die on that day, but she got admitted to the hospital, and she found out about her tumor. She wanted to live again, especially after hearing about the tumor.
She thought she could beat the tumor by changing her diet and started searching for some recipes on YouTube, where she found her firstborn daughter, Mabel Mathilda.
Mabel Mathilda is a renowned chef who has written some cooking books and is very famous for it. Back to the present day, we see Mabel in a show discussing food. She gives some controversial comments on the Caribbean recipe for Rum Cake. She states that sugarcane wasn’t from the Caribbean; they were from South Asians.
Rum cakes were made using sugarcane, and according to Mathilda, Caribbean people don’t own Rum Cake recipes. A black chef disagrees with Mathilda’s opinion. Rum Cake originated from the Caribbean; it doesn’t matter if one ingredient is from a different country.

Mathilda starts getting hate online due to her opinion. She is a white person, and her giving an opinion on a recipe she doesn’t even know truly offended a lot of people. Mathilda lives with her parents in London, and she also has a 16-year-old son named Gio. Mathilda has a very good relationship with her parents. She gets a call from Mitch.
Mitch tells her about her mother Eleanor and asks her to come to California. Mathilda was in shock after knowing about it; she doesn’t even know that she is adopted. Mathilda confronts her parents and is very angry with them for not telling her.
In California, Byron and Benny were also shocked after finding out about it. Benny starts thinking that her mother was comparing her with Mathilda. Benny doesn’t want to see Mathilda. Mitch tells them they can’t listen to the last recording without Mathilda. They have to wait for Mathilda. Byron researches about Mathilda on Google and sees her cooking website. In the morning, Byron meets his girlfriend Lynette. Lynette apologizes to Byron. Lynette asks Byron to talk about the racism he faced in the office.
Byron doesn’t want to do anything as he can lose his job for it. Byron also apologizes to Lynette and tells her about Mathilda. Byron gets a call from the office where he got invited to join a diversity panel, and Byron agrees to it. Lynette doesn’t like that Byron agreed to it and tells him to stop being naive and do something about it.
Benny gets a call from Steve about selling an artwork of hers. Benny asks Steve if she can see her artwork one last time before selling it. Benny goes to Steve’s home; Steve wasn’t at home. She destroys the artwork when she hears Steve’s car.

Benny calls Byron and asks him to help her. Benny confronts Steve about everything she couldn’t say before. Steve begs Benny not to leave him; Byron arrives there and attacks Steve. The police come and arrest Byron for attacking Steve.
