Kerala Crime Files Review: Hotstar Original Malayalam crime thriller show, Kerala Crime Files, is now streaming on Hotstar with a total of 6 episodes. All episodes are around 30 minutes long and are not suitable to watch with family and kids. I just finished watching the series, and here is its detailed review.
The plot of the story revolves around a murder that happened in a local lodge. The victim was identified as a sex worker in the local area. While the police start investigating the case, there are a lot of misleading and shocking pieces of evidence that appear. Will they be able to solve the case and catch the killer? To know this, you need to watch the full series on Hotstar.
The story of the series starts in the 2011 era, which makes the case more interesting. During in those days, the police had limited ways and methods to investigate the case. There are a few sequences in the series that also tell us about the dark side of the police and the investigation. There are a few sequences where we get to see how a man can be in trouble if he decides to help the police and how the police behave with him. In another sequence, we see that when the police ask for the photo of the suspect from his wife, he tears the photo in half in front of her. There are many sequences that tell us how the investigation works.
Coming to the screenplay and the storyline, the episodes are short and they look good until Episode 3. After that, the episodes become slow, dull,, and repetitive. The climax of the show is also not up to the mark for me, and it was underwhelming. The music and background music (bGM) of the film is amazing, and I liked the bGM in the climax.
Aju Varghese, SI Manoj, and the lead investigating officer was amazing in the show, and he leads the team well. There are some sequences where he was too good. Sanju Sanichen, as CPO Vinu, was just too good for me, and he looks great in the show. Zhinz Shan was also brilliant as Constable Pardeep, and he nailed it in the character. The only best thing about the show is the performance of the lead actors. They have done a phenomenal job.
I am going with 2.5 out of 5 stars for the series. The show is not a perfect show, but if you have nothing to watch and if you are looking to watch some crime thriller shows on Hotstar, you may give a chance to the show.
