Maja Ma Review: I am pretty sure that this movie was written a long ago, there were times when Ayushman Khuaran used to do these types of films and now we had seen thousands of films and shows like this based on LGBTQ+ relationships and Copules.
Maja Ma starring Mahduri Dixit, Gajraj Rao, Ritwik Bhowmik, and Barkha Singh released today on Amazon Prime Video, the film is a direct OTT release and it is around 2 Hours long, The film is available on Amazon Prime Video in Hindi audio with substitles.
The plot of the story revolves around Tejas Patel (Played by Ritwik) and his family, He wants to marry an NRI girl Ehsa Hansraj (Played by Barkha Singh), Esha’s family is super orthodox and they want to marry in a typical Indian family with Sanskar’s and all. When they came to visit Tejas’s house something happens which shocked everyone including Tejas, how Tejas will handle the situation and what will happen to his marriage, to know this you have to watch this 2 Hours long film on Prime Video.
These stories are super old now and Maja Me offers No Maja at all, the film is super predictbale and each and every frame looks known and repetative, the same old family, First they will reject that Man/woman who is LGBTQ, and then there is someone who supports and then at the end, everyone gets their senses back and everything goes normal and everyone accepts that Man/woman. The story and the execution are pretty much similar to the old films that we had already seen.
I have issues with a few things in the film, Sheeba Chadha Playing the role of Mother of Esha acts like an NRI, and all of sudden she starts acting like a typical Indian and speaks in the Indian accent, I don’t think this was needed at all, the same situations apply to the character of Rajit Kapoor. There is a dialogue in the film where Esha’a Mom says “Kahin Tume Periods Mein To Nahi, Because Periods wale Impure hote Hain” something like that, was not needed at all, the biggest issue with the film is that the Film tries to solve a problem but ended up in being the Problematic itself.

Madhuri Dixit tries her best to save this sinking boat, but she fails, she looks good in her role, and the emotional sequences were pretty good but in the end, even she can’t save the film. Gajaraj Rao is brilliant as always and he makes the film a little watchable, his funny accent is goona make you laugh for sure, we have seen him in many roles like this but still he looks funny and fresh.
Barkha Singh looks super pretty and the Chemistry with Ritwik was decent, Riwtik was also good in his role but still, he can’t match that level from his own web series Bandish Bandits, I wish he gets more roles like that. Shrishti Srivastav looks good in his role too. The rest of the other actors were decent with their performances.
The locations and the Music of the film were decent, That last song of the film was soothing to the ear, the BGM was decent and the cinematography and editing were also good.
I am going with 2.5 out of 5 stars for the film, The film is not a bad film but it is just another film with a social message and a typical LGBTQ story that shows you nothing new, I will suggest you skip the film.
Rating: 2.5/5
