After a successful run at the Box-Office last year, 2021, SONY has announced that a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife will release in the theatres next year, 2023 in December. This comes after the Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a success commercially and with critics as well.
The direct sequel to Ghostbusters 1 & 2, Ghostbusters: Afterlife film follows the grandchildren of original ghostbusters Egon Spengler also known as Egie, Spengie, and Dirt Farmer. The film is set 30 years later when a single mother and her children move to a farm in Oklahoma. Produced by SONY, the film opened to good reviews and did well at the box office.
Directed by Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman who directed the original Ghostbusters movies. The Ghostbusters: Afterlife film focused on the children more with the cast as Finn Wolfhard (known for Stranger Things), McKenna Grace (Known for Young Sheldon), Paul Rudd (known for Ant-Man Duology).
Ghostbusters franchise remains very commercially successful with films, a video games, spin-off animated series called “The Real Ghostbusters”, comics, and Live-action TV Series and with the film franchise reviving in 2021, there opens a whole new dimension of how SONY can make us feel nostalgic and earn money at the same time until they ruin the whole franchise.
This will be interesting to see if SONY can produce a worthy sequel or not, but we’ll know that in the near future.
