The latest docu-series by Chris Smith is a story about the very successful band of the early 90s, Wham, formed by the duo George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley in 1981. It tells the story of how the band became the most successful band in the world, selling millions of albums.
The Movie is now streaming on Netflix in English language and also includes interviews with both band members. Here, we are going to review the series, so let’s get started.
The series is straight to the point and doesn’t talk about the history of music or how musicians were treated at that time or any other controversial aspects. It shows us footage and music videos of the band and how the crowd loved them when they performed on stage. Since one of the members, Michael is now deceased, we get to see his old footage, but we can also see how his partner is doing now.
Both of their voices guide us through the whole film, and most of Michael’s interviews are taken from his interviews with BBC Radio. His partner used to call him by his nickname Yog. Overall, the series is great and a must-watch for people who want to do something in their life. It shows us the courage that Michael held because black people were not highly regarded at that time, but he still proved himself to be one of the greatest of his time. The story also shows us how they traveled together to different places and drew inspiration for their new albums from various things and people, like their trip to Memphis for the album Careless Whisper.
