We’re all anime fans but specifically when we look at anime movies, it’s really hard to beat the early Studio Ghibli films like Spirited Away which exudes creativity and amazing visual effects with lovely music that gets stuck inside your heart. One of the most notable films that Studio Ghibli gave to the world is “Princess Monokone” which release in 12th July 1997.
Released as an epic historical fantasy animated film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the film was set in the late Muromachi period of Japan with some added fantasy elements. It is a story about Ashitaka, a young prince, and his involvement in the struggle between the gods of the forest and the humans who consume the resources.
The film was not just a commercial and critical success but it was the highest-grossing movie of that year, 1997, and kept that record high until it was broken by Spirited Away in 2001. Not only that, the film when dubbed in English, the script was written by Neil Gaiman of American Gods, Good Omens and distributed by Miramax.
Why we’re talking about this film, in particular, is because it has completed 25 years since its original release and however, it’s a huge milestone for a movie to complete so many years and yet still get considered as one of the best anime movies ever.
On this special occasion, the film is getting released in theatres again and we’re very sure that Studio Ghibli fans will surely go out to the theatres for that.
