Last Week Tonight With John Oliver Season 9 Episode 19 Recap: HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver came back with another episode last week and this episode was particularly interesting and informative since it focussed on “Monkeypox” as its main story with some side stories that are funny and humorous but the main focus of the show was on Monkeypox, How It transmits and some first-hand experiences by people who have recovered from Monkeypox. How the government is handling it and what to do?
The Episode dived straight into how Monkeypox is being transmitted and that is mostly with Gay people who are engaged in same-sex relationships and it is being transmitted via sex, mostly. Since Monkeypox is being transmitted, there are scenarios where Gay communities are getting targeted and it seems like this only affects gays and not others. However, after clarification, Monkeypox can happen to anyone and it can be avoided with proper precautions.
The Episode also focussed on the new smallpox vaccines that the government has been stockpiling after the 9/11 attack and the US let 20M doses expire and did not give them to African countries that had outbreaks at that time and were short on vaccines which in turn caused the current outbreak in the US. The Episode also showed some of the right information about Monkeypox and how to take precautions in that.
