Jim Moss finds out about the $250,000 that Barry gave to Gene and Gene used that money to buy a house for his son Leo and concludes that it was Gene who was the original mastermind who used Barry and also killed Janice, his daughter. Gene’s whole world comes crashing down he was away for 8 years and had come back a changed man for a day probably after he’s tempted by a movie offer.
Gene, in his room is contemplating his death with a gun in his hand and he hears Barry come in asking about Sally and his son, John but Gene in his rage shoots Barry and Barry dies instantly.
The movie that WB was going to make on Gene’s life in the early Episodes of Barry now gets made with Barry as a good guy titled “The Mask Collector” making Gene the bad guy. At the end of the movie, it’s shown that Gene is serving a life sentence for the murder of Janice Moss and Barry Berkman.
