Ajeeb Dastaan Netflix Review (Ajeeb Daastaans): The best thing about the Anthology series are the actors and their performances, Netflix is back with another anthology after the blockbusters like Ludo and Lust Stories. The film titled “Ajeeb Daastaans” is now available to watch on Netflix and I Just finished the series. Here in the post, I am going to review the film.

I am going to talk about the performances, plot and key highlights from the Netflix original film, to all those who don’t know the film stars some talented actors of the town like Jaideep Ahlawat, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Nushrat Barucha, Abhishek Banerjee, Aditi Rao Haidri, Konkana Sen Sharma, Manav Kaul and Shefali Shah. The film is directed by four sets of director Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan, and Kayzoe Irani.

Plot

The film is about the Four different stories of different societies, the four stories are titled Majnu, Khilauna, Ankahi, and Geeli Puchi, the Majnu is about an arranged marriage where both people are unhappy with the marriage and there comes a spark in the life of girl after she gets attached towards some other man, the second story deals with the two sisters, the elder sister (Played by Nushrat Barucha) works as a housemaid for her livelihood with her small sister. The third story is about a factory worker ( Konkana Sen Sharma) who found that her abilities are not getting rewarded as she is from backward class, her position was overtaken by some high class girl (Aditi Rao Haidri).

The fourth and last story is about a Housewife who is asking her husband to learn sign language so that he can talk with her deaf daughter but the man continuously refuges to do so as he doesn’t have time due to the office work, in all between these She comes close to a deaf Photographer ended up making a relationship with him. What was the end of all these stories and how these stories were “Ajeeb”, to know this you have to watch the 2 hours and 20 minutes long film on Netflix?.

Performances

The best part of the film is the performances, everyone from the film is just brilliant, from a small cute girl to big mature actors like Jaideep Ahlawat, everyone was just superb. Fatima Sana sheikh is shining as always in her role of an unhappy housewife who is looking for love, she has done a brilliant Job, Jaideep Ahlawat in the same story is amazing as always. Nushrat Barucha was having Party girl type image in my mind and I was thinking that she can only do commercial films, but here she is amazing, a special mention to that small little girl, she is killing it with her cute dialogues and amazing performances in the film, I must say she is the biggest highlight of the film.

Konkana Sen Sharma, OMG, she is a cult classic actress and here she proves again why she is one of the best in the town, no heavy role, no makeup and still she is brilliant, Aditi Rao Haidri was also good with her role and she looks beautiful as always. Last but not the least, Manav Kaul, I always have a Goon or villain type image of his, but here he is amazing in his new avatar or a chocolate Romantic character, Shefali Shah is amazing as always, she talks and act through her eyes throughout the film. The rest of the other supporting actors were equally brilliant.

Analysis

The bad thing about the Anthology series is, we never get fully satisfied and amazed with all the stories, but the best part about the Anthology is, we get one or two amazing stories and these make the whole film/series wonderful, the same is the case with this film too. The best from the movie were the second & the third story,i.e Khilauna and Geeli Puchi, it doesn’t make other stories bad, but I personally liked these two the most, Khilauna is full of suspense and some amazing performances while Geeli Puchi is just amazing due to it mindblowing performances and brilliant and satisfying climax.

Majnu (The First Story) was a little dull and there were lots of loopholes in the story although the plot justifies the name “Ajeeb”, the last story “Ankahi” was brilliant in terms of performance but it lacks the screenplay. The music in the series is another plus point with some amazing locations.

Overall

I am going with 3 out of 5 stars for the film, The two stories ‘Khilauna’ & “Geeli Puch” and best in the film followed by Ankahi and Majnu, You can watch the film on Netflix and you can watch the stories separately as there is no interconnection, Don’t watch it with family as there are lots of Skin Show and abuses, the movie is approx 2 hours and 20 minutes long and now available on Netflix in Hindi audio with the subtitles.
