Sarpatta Parambarai Review: Sports drama are the new trend nowadays, after blockbuster Dangal, Sultan and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Makers are producing more and more sports drama. Few are getting an awesome response from the audiences while few fall flat. Just a week back Amazon Prime releases Farhan Akhtar’s Toofan, which was a below-average film. Now they released another sports drama titled Sarpatta Parambarai.

I Just finished the Sarpatta Parambarai on Amazon Prime Video and here I am with the review of the film, I am going to talk about the Performances, Plot, highlights, and negatives of the film. The film is now available on Amazon Prime Video in Telugu and Tamil audio along with the English subtitles, Film is approx 2 hours and 53 Minutes Long. Let’s jump to the review.

Story

The film starts in ’70s with the rivalry in boxing between the Sarpatta and Idiyaapam gangs. Sarpatta Parambarai was once known for its amazing players and champions but from the last few years everything is turned down and people had lost faith in this clan. Kabilan (Played by Arya) comes forward and decided to fight against the Champion Vembuli (Played by John Kokken), who is champion is champion and he plays for Idiyappa Parambarai. Will Kabilan be able to win the trust of the people and Rangan, who is the coach of  Sarpatta Parambarai (Played by Pasupathi), Who will be the winner, and how, To know this you have to watch this 3-hour long sports drama on Amazon Prime Video.

Performances

The best part about the film is its actors and their amazing performances. While watching the film, it looks like actors are living their characters. Dushara Vijayan (Playing as Mariyamma) is good and she was the surprise package for me, She looks amazing and her expressions we treat to watch. Pasupathy was so good in the role of a coach and he looks brilliant, he was so good during the intense scenes.

John Kokken (Playing as Vembuli) was equally good in the film, he was physically brilliant and punching moves were amazing. Last but not the least, Arya is brilliant as Kabilan and this one is one of his best performances to date. He stikes well in every field, his transformation, his physical appearance, expressions, and dialogue delivery, Everything was perfect and it was so amazing to watch Him. The rest of the other characters were very good and everyone has given their best in the film.

Analysis

The film starts brilliantly and it goes very well till the first half, the second half of the film becomes lengthy and predictable and here film starts falling down and the very predictable climax puts the final nail to the coffin. The screenplay of the film goes dull in the middle and it fails to keep you to the seats, the editing of the film was also poor and the length of the film was the biggest issue with the film. The VFX was good, the boxing sequences were a treat to watch and they were amazing.

The writing of the film is very weak and there is the inclusion of unnecessary Political events and sequences which were not needed at all. The bgm of the film is awesome and this adds a major boost to the quality of the film. Although the film has everything that an audience needs, but in the end, it turns out to be an average film.

There are many poor and illogical scenes in the film, Climax is like a typical old Bollywood film. The journey from boxer to drinker and drinker to a boxer was funny as well as laughable and it looks unrealistic, Climax is more like old Bollywood films where Hero is getting trashed and on verge of death, and there comes a scene where his relatives like Mother, wife, and Family says, ” Mere Karan Arjun Aayenge” and “Uth Beta Uth” and then hero beats the villain and film ends.:-p

Overall

I am going with 2.5 out of 5 stars for thefilm. Film has nothing special to offer, but if like sports drama film, you can definitly choose Arya’s sports drama Sarpatta Parambarai over last week release ‘Toofan.’ The film is a decent sports drama which is a one time watchable. The film is now available on Amazon Prime Video in Tamil and Telugu audio with subtitles.
