Nanny 2022 Movie Review Amazon Prime Video: Nikyatu Jusu’s directorial debut, Nanny, has today been released on Prime Video. It was produced by Blumhouse Productions, whose previous known movies include Get Out, The Black Phone, and more, which are like gems of that production house and are known for being the best horror movie production house.
Nanny’s cast includes Anna Diop, Michelle Monaghan, Sinqua Walls, and Morgan Spector in the main lead roles, The film also stars Rose Decker, and Leslie Uggams. Nanny had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize. It is considered the first horror film to win this award. Now let’s get into the review of this film and how much I like it.
As we already know, this is the first movie directed by Nikyatu Jusu, whose film focuses on the experience of immigrant people who come to America and tells the story of the pains, trials, and issues they have to face.
Without any spoiler, Nanny Story follows the story of Aisha, an immigrant from Senegal who comes to America in search of a better life while also saving money to bring her mother with her. So, after searching for jobs, she started working as a nanny for a young girl named Rose, who is the daughter of a wealthy white couple who lives in New York City. Now, you will see how the story changes with the visions that Aisha experiences in the movie, which I can’t spoil for the viewers.
The CGI of this movie looks dull sometimes, but the cinematography of this movie is solid, and the music that plays in the background makes it feel more horrifying, whereas this horror movie does not feel that much scarier, or maybe it is my experience, as I have seen many horror movies and shows that have more jump scares than this, but for those who don’t watch that much horror, they are going to love it.
Now, The visual scene where we see the vision that haunts Aisha looks visually amazing, whereas the colors that show look good, and in some scenes where we see scary elements, the scene is rendered perfectly, which makes the visual experience amazing.
Finally, this film is for the viewer who is new to horror and wants to try something new; they must watch it, along with the audience who liked the Blumhouse film, which they will enjoy but not as much as the other. Now, let me know in the comment box how much you like this movie rather than my experience.
Rating: 2.8/5
