Aavesham (2024) Movie Review: Aavesham was written and directed by Jithu Madhavan. Aavesham is my second Malayalam movie which I watched in theaters after Manjummel Boys. The only reason why I was excited to watch this movie is Fahadh Faasil after watching him in Vikram, Joji, Pushpa, and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum there was no way I was going to miss watching him on the big screen so because of this excitement I didn’t saw any reviews and went without knowing anything about Aavesham.
But as it turned out I enjoyed the movie perhaps Aavesham was the best movie-going experience for me this year and I am glad I didn’t miss it on the big screen.
The plot is simple 3 engineering students get involved in a fight and to take revenge they join the local gang led by Ranga with this simple plot Director Jithu Madhavan proved that you could make a good movie with a simple plot but for that what you need is good actors to play the well-written characters of your film.
Casting Fahadh Faasil as Ranga might be the best casting decision of the year. Also, those 3 new actors who played the students did a great job all of them. Also, Sajin Gopu as Amban complimented FaFa very well and he carried the comedy and action for the first 1hr of the film.

Another major thing in the movie apart from the acting and well-written characters is the comedy in the film. The comedy worked almost every time for me the comedy in Aavesham had something that always worked pretty well. Take that gun-firing scene for example or Ranga making reels or Ranga getting ready it was so much fun that my whole theatre was laughing their heart out.
What I think is that director and writer Jithu Madhavan did a great job writing characters and relationships between them in such a way that they never felt like a gang which they usually show us in a movie they felt like a bunch of siblings and brothers hanging out together.
Another example of great writing from the movie will be the bond between Ranga and Bibi of brothers but when you think in the movie those two never had a conversation about this. All we see is Bibi’s mother saying Ranga to protect Bibi and be sure he is happy and that one time when Bibi says “my brother” referring to Ranga.
As the movie progresses the bond between these two just gets stronger as they party together making Bibi happy or Ranga takes revenge on those seniors and protects Bibi or when Bibi calls Reddy and those two brothers end up having their first fight or at the end when Ranga make sure that Bibi passes his exams. Apart from how much I enjoyed the movie I think the thing I will remember for long will be this bond between Ranga and Bibi.

Technically also the movie is well made. The cinematography and production design look colorful and bright I would love to be in the world of Aavesham. The BGM by Sushin Syam also perfectly matches the tone of the movie. But as for songs, I don’t remember any catchy ones that I will add to my playlist.
If you haven’t seen Aavesham yet and have a chance to watch it on the big screen then please go for it you won’t regret it.
