Who is Umesh Reddy?
This documentary series fully tells the crime story of Umesh Reddy, who was a policeman but turned into a serial killer who killed 18 women and was convicted in 9 cases; other cases don’t have more details. The police believe that he raped around 20 women in the states of Karnataka, Gujarat, and Maharastra, where they believe that few cases are being reported as victims are afraid to report.
Timeline Of His Crimes
According to all available details, the first case of Umesh was an attempted rape at a high school in November 1996. She escaped somehow, but he started his way and again raped a 16-year-old girl in the same town, and after that, it became a habit for him, After that, he raped a 37-year-old widow named Jayashree Subbiah. Then he raped and murdered people in 1997, 1998, and until 2002, when he was apprehended, the details of which he confirmed during his confession.
How Umesh Was Caught?
The girl he raped somehow escaped from the house where he did his crime, and then she identified him at a republic day parade. After that, he was arrested and is now dismissed from the police service. Following that, he confesses to all crimes, shocking the audience and revealing that he raped and killed with gore around 20 girls and women, shocking the officers who take his confession and place him in long-term custody.
Following that, the Karnataka High Court sentenced him to death in 2009, but he filed a mercy petition, and the decision now in the hands of the Supreme Court in 2011, in which all of his crimes are not reported as victims feared for social issues. After that, the Supreme Court commuted his death sentence to a 30-year sentence in 2022, and he spent the rest of his life in prison.
