Netflix has released the trailer with the release date of the upcoming Nigerian historical adventure social drama film Elesin Oba: The King’s Horseman, which is an adaptation of Death and The King’s Horseman stage play by Wole Soyinka, which is also based on a real incident that took place in Nigeria during British Colonial Rule.
The King’s Horseman story is set in the era of the 1940s during the Oyo Empire, where the story centers around a long-held tradition where after the death of the king, Elesin Oba must perform this ritual suicide in order to join his deceased king in the afterlife.
The story shows that if his king dies, after that, a horseman must sacrifice himself to serve his ruler so that the sudden distractions lead to an unpredictable disaster.
The King’s Horseman cast includes Odunlade Adekola, Shaffy Bello and Olawale-Brymo Olofooro, Deyemi Okanlawon in the main lead roles, The show also stars Omowunmi Dada, Jide Kosoko, Mark Elderkin, and more. This film is written and directed by Biyi Bandele.
The King’s Horseman had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022, got a huge IMDb rating of 9.6/10, and is set for release on November 4, only on Netflix.
