“The Nurse” Summary & Ending Explained: “The Nurse” is now available on Netflix in English and Swedish with English subtitles. In this article, I am going to tell you the summary and ending explanation of episode 1 of the series, so let’s get started.

The story is divided between two timelines, 2012 and 2014, so the past events will play a major role in how the story unfolds in the present.

The story begins in 2012 when an old patient named Arne is admitted to the hospital. He lives with his dog and faints one day while playing with him. His brother complains about his bad eating habits and his not very active lifestyle. However, he is kept in the hospital overnight for observation. Unfortunately, that night proves to be his last as someone injects an extra dose of morphine while he is sleeping, resulting in a cardiac arrest.

Now cut to 2014, and we see Pernille, a working mother who has recently been admitted to the same hospital and is living near her ex-husband, as they are still close friends. Her husband Morten is very close to their daughter, Alberte, who used to live with her mother.

Pernille is assigned to Ward No. 3 and will assist Christina, the most experienced nurse on the ward. A person there shows her around and introduces her to everyone. She sees Christina’s expertise as she saves the life of a heart attack patient in front of her, and she is very impressed by that. Christina introduces herself and is very down-to-earth. She says that an emergency is like a warzone and that they have to be ready every moment.

The next moment, there is another emergency of a cardiac patient, and they call Pernille. She has zero experience, but Christina guides her, and they save the patient’s life until the emergency team arrives.

Back in 2012, where Arne’s brother was told that he overdosed on antidepressants and killed himself, but he was not convinced by the doctors.

The next day at work, Pernille is looking after a patient named Janni, who is there for a normal check-up and has no disease. But as soon as she is about to go home, she has a cardiac arrest. The emergency procedure is followed, but she is later declared dead by the doctors’ team. Everyone is shocked that she was fine, and the next moment she had a heart attack. It seems like someone has done something to her.

ENDING EXPLAINED

Pernille is shocked after the incident, and she tells Christina that she wants a normal job, not this job full of so much anxiety and stress. But Christina, an experienced nurse, tells her that it is all part of the job. Someone’s life is not in their hands, and all they can do is give their full effort.

In the end, as she is going home, she notices an empty syringe in the dustbin. But the nurse Ditte, who works with her, says that it was nothing. Pernille thinks the other way and believes that someone has overdosed Janni with some dr*gs, and the episode ends.
