The Makanai series Follows the story of Two Childhood friends Kiyo and Sumire, who moved to Kyoto to become maiko. Kiyo wanted to become a Maiko with her friend, but she was very slow at adopting the skills and learning the basics of Maiko. Her friend Sumire was very good at it and became a Maiko. Kiyo soon discovers her skill in cooking and starts cooking for the girl in the maiko house.
