Panjurli Daiva Story: Kantara has not only wreaked havoc on the box office by infusing mythology with action but also giving us religiously followed practices in a specific part of India i.e., the Coastal Region of Karnataka specifically shot in the village of Kaabudettu. Kantara shows two gods that go together which are Panjurli & Guliga.

It was mentioned in the film that both go together with the king when the king asks for the stone that the villagers worship and not only one but the two gods with go along and if the King goes back on his promise, even if Panjurli forgives, Guliga will not and punish him for breaking his promise. So, the question might arise that who is Panjurli and Guliga. Let us shed some light on that.

Who is Panjurli?

Panjurli is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is in the form of Varaha which means a wild boar. The story of Panjurli starts with a wild boar who died in the pleasure garden of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Saddened by the death of a mother, Goddess Parvati takes in the young boar as her child but that young boar grows up to be very destructive to the point that Lord Shiva decides to kill it.

However, given how many goddesses Parvati loved that boar, Lord Shiva banishes the wild boar to earth and assigns it to protect the people and receive tributes from them. Hence, the wild boar ends up becoming a bhuta or a daiva and was known as Panjurli.
