Matilda The Musical Review: Netflix has been reprising a lot of the classical stories from A Christmas Carol to the origin of Santa Claus (Klaus) and the recent addition to that list is Matilda which does not need any introduction as it is one of the most famous books of Roald Dahl and its previous adaptation into the movie was a major hit as well.

Netflix, especially during this Holiday Season brings to us a story that is not limited to children but related to all masses, a story of love, finding oneself and being optimistic and keeping the light burning inside you.

The story of Matilda who was born to a family who wanted a son and after the birth neglect her in every way possible by keeping her in the cellar not sending her to school and calling her as their son but Matilda has grown up to be a rather exceptional girl who keeps herself in the company of books and her friend Mrs.

Phelps who runs a remote library lets her read any book she likes. One day, the school teachers arrive at her house and ask the parents to send her to school the school which has been run by the evil antagonist Agatha Trunchbull who considers the children Maggots and forces the notion that no child is special.

She is strict, not forgiving, highly disciplined, and torturous to the students. The story takes place when Matilda whose ideals and revolting attitude clash with that of Agatha Trunchbull.

Being based on the stage musical written by Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin, the film gets a thumbs up in giving us a new take on the story that we’ve heard quite a lot. Being a live-action film, the characters have done their jobs beautifully, right from the young talent of Alisha Weir to the every-time amazing Emma Thompson, the songs are beautifully written and give us a watch-worthy film.

The film is just a bit above 120 minutes and it manages to cover all of it without dragging it much. It stays to the point and the songs keep you invested. The VFX in the film is not too aesthetic and works well with whatever’s going on. The Children Ensemble also works well giving us a good feel-good film.

Final Verdict: 3/5

“Matilda The Musical is packed with good songs, and a great ensemble cast which results in a quite decent watch.”

"I'm just a humble cinephile with a knack for stringing words together. My reviews may not be as fancy as "The Grand Budapest Hotel" but they'll give you a good idea of whether a movie is worth the ticket price. I may not be a "Casablanca" of criticism, but I'll always give you my honest opinion. So join me on this journey of cinematic discovery, it's sure to be "One for the Ages."
