Dahan (Hotstar) Review: Hotstar has finally released its new series “Dahan” which was previously scheduled for August but delayed due to Criminal Justice, The motion posters and trailer has given us a vibe that it could be a good series and will be in the genre of Betaal, Ghoul of Netflix.
The series starts well, The first episode manages to hook you into the mystery of myth and beliefs created around Shilashpura village, and also the glimpse of the personal life of Avani played by Tisca Chopra is kept in suspense. The story starts building up till the Second episode and but then it slowly drags down due to its repetitive and draggy scenes and conversations about the myth of Shilashpura. Few scenes are very well shot and will impress you with their execution.
Till the few next episodes it fails to keep you hooked but it manages to high its pace again from the Fifth episode.
The series tries to explore lots of things but fails to execute them properly. Being a series of 9 episodes of 45 to 52 minutes in length it fails to keep its viewer engaged and hooked till the last episode due to its poor, clumsy screenplay and execution, The production quality of the series is good, and also few scenes are dark and may give you jumpscare.
The performance of the actors is worth mentioning, Sourav Shukla has done a great job as the Pramukh of the village as well as Tisca Chopra, Rajesh Tailang was also decent but fails to provide you with anything new from him different from his last few serieS, Mukesh Tiwari is coming to the screen after a very long time and is also looking witty in his role of Corrupted Officer.
After considering all the factors I am going with 2.8 stars for this. It is a slow-burn series and will test your patience, So watch this series only if you have a long time to spare for it, As I said, the show is streaming on Hotstar with a total of 9 Episodes.
