The latest period drama series shows us the golden time of Indian cinema in the early 1950s when people came to pursue their careers in the city of dreams, Mumbai. The show is created by Vikramaditya Motwane and Soumik Sen and includes stars like Aditi Rao Hydari, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aparshakti Khurana, Sidhant Gupta, Wamiqa Gabbi, and many more. The show revolves around a very famous studio of that time.
The series, Roy Talkies was founded by Srikant Roy, a film producer, and his actress wife Sumitra Kumari. The series shows us the inner politics of classic Indian cinema and how filmmaking was done at that time, especially after the partition.
However, the studio is not based on any real film studio, but it seems inspired by the very famous film studio that launched stars like Ashok Kumar and Dilip Kumar – Bombay Talkies. Founded in 1934 by Himanshu Rai and his wife Devika Rani, the studio was very successful at that time and has given many hits and stars. The studio was built in Malad, and the husband and wife wanted their studio to be of international standard. So, they brought the latest technology from Germany and engineers from various parts of the world like England.
The studio included technology like an editing room and an echo-proof room. The studio has given movies like ‘Achuut Kannya (1936), which was a very controversial topic at that time. Similarly, Roy Talkies is inspired by this studio in the series. Also, the husband-wife duo founded the studio, but there is no studio with the name Roy Talkies in real life.
